Fosston City, Polk County, Minnesota is a city located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 1575 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 1470, making it the 270th most populous in Minnesota. The city has a total area of 1.64 square miles (4.25 kmē), of which, 1.63 square miles (4.22 kmē) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 357th largest by total area in Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1575 residents, 681 households, and 380 families in the city.
