Fort Payne City is a city located in DeKalb County, Alabama, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. Fort Payne City had an official population of 12938 in 2000. Its population was estimated at 14061 in July 2008, making it the 43rd most populous in Alabama. It has total area of 55.96 square miles (144.94 sq km), of which, 55.88 square miles (144.73 sq km) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 sq km) of it is water, it is the 11th largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.
