Fort Madison City is a United States city located in the Lee County, Iowa, United States. In 2000, the population was 10715. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 10897, It is the 31st largest by population in the U.S. state of Iowa. The city extends throughout a territory of 12.95 square miles (33.54 square kilometre ), of which, 9.21 square miles (23.85 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.74 square miles (9.69 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 24th largest by size in Iowa. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Iowa.

The population density was 1162.9 people per square mile (449/kmē), it is 243rd most densely populated city in Iowa.
