Forrest County is a county located in Mississippi, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. It is home to over 72604 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 79425, making it the eighth most populous county in Mississippi. The county spans an area of 470.17 square miles (1217.73 sq km), of which, 466.58 square miles (1208.44 sq km) of it is land and 3.59 square miles (9.3 sq km) of it is water, making it Mississippi's 25th smallest county by total area.

The population's age distribution was 24.5% under the age of 18, 18.2% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.3 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 79425, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 49581 White, 28033 Black or African American, 171 American Indian, 928 Asian, 14 Native Hawaiian, and 698 from two or more races.
