Forest County is a county located in the United States of Wisconsin. In 2000, the population was 10024. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 9846, making it the fifth least populous county in Wisconsin. Its area is just over 1046.4 square miles (2710.16 kmē), of which, 1014.05 square miles (2626.38 kmē) of it is land and 32.34 square miles (83.76 kmē) of it is water, it is the 19th largest by area in the U.S. state of Wisconsin.

As of the census of 2000, there were 10024 residents, 4043 households, and 2768 families in the county. The population density was 9.9 people per square mile (3.82/kmē), making it the second least densely populated county in Wisconsin. There were 8322 housing units at an average density of 8.2 per square mile (3.17/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.39 persons, and the average family size was 2.89 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.3% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 9846, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 84.58% White, 1.45% Black or African American, 12.35% American Indian, 0.18% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.39% from two or more races.
