Forest County, Pennsylvania


Forest County is a county located in Pennsylvania, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 4946 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 6825 in July 2008, It is the third smallest in terms of population. The county spans an area of 431.4 square miles (1117.32 square kilometre), of which, 428.12 square miles (1108.83 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.28 square miles (8.5 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 15th smallest by total area in Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4946 residents, 2000 households, and 1328 families in the county. The population density was 11.6 people per square mile (4.48/kmē), it is Pennsylvania's least densely populated county. There were 8701 housing units at an average density of 20.3 per square mile (7.84/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.29 persons, and the average family size was 2.81 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 28.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 89.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 97.8 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 6825, The racial makeup of the county was 5519 White, 1225 Black or African American, 24 American Indian, 22 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 35 from two or more races.
