Forest City, Scott County, Mississippi is a city located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The city has a population of 5987 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 5972, It is the 60th most populous in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It has total area of 13.03 mi˛ (33.75 square kilometre), of which, 13.01 square miles (33.7 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 44th largest by area in the U.S. state of Mississippi.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5987 residents, 2085 households, and 1479 families in the city. The population density was 460 people per square mile (177.61/km˛), it is 198th most densely populated city in Mississippi. There were 2257 housing units at an average density of 173.5 per square mile (66.99/km˛). The average household size was 2.8 persons, and the average family size was 3.25 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 29.3% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.5 males. The median age is 32.5 years, The median age of males was 30.4 years, for females the median age was 35.2 years. The racial makeup of the city was 40.35% White, 50.88% Black or African American, 0.4% American Indian, 0.53% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, 1.92% from two or more races and 5.85% Other races.
