The July 2008 population estimate is 14050, making it Illinois's 24th smallest county. It is spread over 486.42 square miles (1259.82 kmē), of which, 485.9 square miles (1258.48 kmē ) of it is land and 0.52 square miles (1.35 kmē) of it is water, making it the 58th largest by size in Illinois.
