Floyd County, Virginia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 13874 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 14821, making it Virginia's 39th smallest county. The county encompasses an area of 381.23 sq mi (987.38 sq km ), of which, 381.22 square miles (987.36 sq km) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 53rd largest by total area among Virginia's county.

The population density was 36.4 people per square mile (14.05/kmē), it is 19th least densely populated county in Virginia. There were 6763 housing units at an average density of 17.7 per square mile (6.83/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.39 persons, and the average family size was 2.83 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 103.4 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 14821, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 14323 White, 347 Black or African American, 13 American Indian, 26 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 109 from two or more races.
