Floyd County is a United States county located in the United States of Texas. Floyd County had an official population of 7771 in 2000. Its population was estimated at 6455 in July 2008, It is 66th least populous county in Texas. The county comprises an area of 992.51 square miles (2570.59 kmē), of which, 992.19 square miles (2569.76 kmē) of it is land and 0.32 square miles (0.83 kmē) of it is water, making it the 83rd largest by size in Texas.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 7771 people, 2730 households, and 2111 families residing in the county. The population density was 7.8 people per square mile (3.01/kmē), making its Texas's 71st least densely populated county. There were 3221 housing units at an average density of 3.2 per square mile (1.24/kmē). The average household size was 2.79 persons, and the average family size was 3.26 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 31.4% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 6455, The racial makeup of the county was 6002 White, 298 Black or African American, 80 American Indian, 19 Asian, 10 Native Hawaiian, and 46 from two or more races.
