Floyd County, Iowa is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 16900. In July 2008, its estimated population was 16183, It is the 46th most populous county in the U.S. state of Iowa. It covers total area of 501.31 sq mi (1298.39 sq km), of which, 500.56 square miles (1296.44 sq km) of it is land and 0.74 square miles (1.92 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 27th smallest by total area among Iowa's county.

The population density was 33.8 people per square mile (13.05/kmē), it is 35th most densely populated county in Iowa. There were 7317 housing units at an average density of 14.6 per square mile (5.64/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.4 persons, and the average family size was 2.92 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.1% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.4 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 16183, The racial makeup of the county was 97.27% White, 0.98% Black or African American, 0.12% American Indian, 0.77% Asian, 0.11% Native Hawaiian, and 0.75% from two or more races.
