Floyd County is one of the 92 county of Indiana, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. Floyd County had an official population of 70823 in 2000. The July 2008 population estimate is 73780, It is Indiana's 21st most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 148.31 square miles (384.12 sq km), of which, 148 square miles (383.32 sq km) of it is land and 0.31 square miles (0.8 sq km) of it is water, making it the second smallest by size in Indiana.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.8% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 73780, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 92.63% White, 5.19% Black or African American, 0.23% American Indian, 0.63% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.28% from two or more races.
