Florence County is one of the 72 county of Wisconsin, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The county has a population of 5088 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 4652, It is second least populous county in Wisconsin. It has total area of 497.46 sq mi (1288.42 square kilometre), of which, 488.03 square miles (1263.99 square kilometre) of it is land and 9.43 square miles (24.42 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the eighth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Wisconsin.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5088 people in the county, organized into 2133 households, and 1441 families living in the county. The population density was 10.4 people per square mile (4.02/kmē), it is fourth least densely populated county in Wisconsin. There were 4239 housing units at an average density of 8.7 per square mile (3.36/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 people, and the average family size was 2.87 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 22.9% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 4652, The racial makeup of the county was 98.02% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 0.54% American Indian, 0.24% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.92% from two or more races.
