Flathead County is a county located in Montana, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. It is home to over 74471 people (2000 census). The July 2008 population estimate is 88473, making it Montana's fourth largest county. It is spread over 5256.45 square miles (13614.14 kmē), of which, 5098.34 square miles (13204.64 kmē ) of it is land and 158.11 square miles (409.5 kmē) of it is water, it is the second largest by area in the U.S. state of Montana. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Montana.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 74471 people, 29588 households, and 20425 families residing in the county. The population density was 14.6 people per square mile (5.64/kmē), giving it the ninth most densely populated county among the Montana. There were 34773 housing units at an average density of 6.8 per square mile (2.63/kmē). The average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the Flathead County, 25.9% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.4% were 18 to 24, 27.4% were 25 to 44, 26.4% were 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.1 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 88473, The racial makeup of the county was 96.23% White, 0.48% Black or African American, 1.33% American Indian, 0.48% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.41% from two or more races.
