Fitzgerald City is a city in the Ben Hill and Irwin counties, Georgia, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 8758 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 9185, It is the 95th largest by population in the U.S. state of Georgia. The city spans an area of 7.29 mi˛ (18.88 sq km), of which, 7.25 square miles (18.78 sq km) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 120th largest by total area among Georgia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8758 people in the city, organized into 3448 households, and 2211 families living in the city. The population density was 1208.8 people per square mile (466.72/km˛), it is the 104th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Georgia. There were 3968 housing units at an average density of 547.3 per square mile (211.31/km˛). The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.12. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 28.3% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 83.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.2 males. The median age was 34.9 years, The median age of males was 31.6 years, for females the median age was 37.5 years. The racial makeup of the city was 4140 White, 4315 Black or African American, 16 American Indian, 27 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 60 from two or more races and 200 Ohter races.
