Ferndale City is a one of the Whatcom County, Washington, located in Western Region (Pacific) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 8758. The July 2008 population estimate is 11359, giving it the 112th largest population among Washington. Its area is just over 6.27 square miles (16.24 square kilometre), of which, 6.22 square miles (16.11 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 146th largest by area in the U.S. state of Washington.

The population density was 1409.1 people per square mile (544.06/kmē), it would be the 203rd most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Washington. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 32.5% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.5% who were 65 or older. The median age was 32 years, the median age of male residents at 30.9 and the median age of female residents at 33. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 84.85% White, 0.82% Black or African American, 2.56% American Indian, 2.43% Asian, 0.25% Native Hawaiian, 3.78% from two or more races and 5.31% Other races.
