Fergus County is a county located in Montana, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. It is home to over 11893 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 11195, making it the 16th most populous county in Montana. It covers total area of 4350.36 mi˛ (11267.38 square kilometre), of which, 4339.17 square miles (11238.4 square kilometre) of it is land and 11.2 square miles (29.01 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the eighth largest by total area in Montana.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 11893 residents, 4860 households, and 3197 families in the county. The population density was 2.7 people per square mile (1.04/km˛), it is Montana's 29th most densely populated county. There were 5558 housing units at an average density of 1.3 per square mile (0.5/km˛). The average household size was 2.33 people, and the average family size was 2.91 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 11195, The racial makeup of the county was 10826 White, 10 Black or African American, 187 American Indian, 28 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 144 from two or more races.
