Fayetteville City is a one of the Washington County, Arkansas, located in Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 58047 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 73372, It is the fourth largest in terms of population. It is spread over 44.49 mi˛ (115.23 sq km), of which, 43.43 square miles (112.48 sq km ) of it is land and 1.07 square miles (2.77 sq km) of it is water, makes it the seventh largest by total area in Arkansas. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Arkansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 58047 people in the city, organized into 23798 households, and 12126 families residing in the city. The population density was 1336.6 people per square mile (516.06/km˛), giving it the 36th most densely populated city among the Arkansas. There were 25467 housing units at an average density of 586.4 per square mile (226.41/km˛). The average household size was 2.21 persons, and the average family size was 2.91 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 19.9% under the age of 18, 25.7% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 15.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 97.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 98.2 females. The median age was 26.9 years, the median age of male residents at 26.2 and the median age of female residents at 27.9. The racial makeup of the city was 86.5% White, 5.11% Black or African American, 1.26% American Indian, 2.56% Asian, 0.16% Native Hawaiian, 2.42% from two or more races and 1.99% Other races.
