Fayette County is a one of the county from Texas's 254 counties, located in Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The population of the county was 21804 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 22698, making it the 106th most populous county in Texas. Its area is just over 959.84 sq mi (2485.97 sq km), of which, 950.03 square miles (2460.57 sq km) of it is land and 9.81 square miles (25.41 sq km) of it is water, it is the 95th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 22698, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 20677 White, 1688 Black or African American, 105 American Indian, 78 Asian, 13 Native Hawaiian, and 137 from two or more races.
