Fayette County is a county located in Kentucky, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. It is home to over 260512 people (2000 census). Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 282114, It is second most populous county in Kentucky. The county has a total area of 285.52 square miles (739.49 square kilometre), of which, 284.52 square miles (736.9 square kilometre) of it is land and 1 square miles (2.59 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 72nd largest by size in Kentucky.

The population density was 915.6 people per square mile (353.52/kmē), giving it the third most densely populated county among the Kentucky. In the county Age distribution was 21.3% under the age of 18, 14.6% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 10% who were 65 or older.
