The July 2008 population estimate is 20273, It is 33rd most populous county in Iowa. Its area is just over 731.45 sq mi (1894.45 kmē), of which, 730.92 square miles (1893.07 kmē) of it is land and 0.52 square miles (1.35 kmē) of it is water, making it Iowa's eighth largest county by total area.
