Fayette County is a United States county located in the United States of Indiana. The population of the county was 25588 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 24265, It is the 30th least populous county in the U.S. state of Indiana. It has total area of 215.12 square miles (557.16 sq km), of which, 214.96 square miles (556.74 sq km) of it is land and 0.16 square miles (0.41 sq km) of it is water, it is the sixth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 24265, The racial makeup of the county was 96.93% White, 1.8% Black or African American, 0.09% American Indian, 0.3% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.84% from two or more races.
