Fayette City is a United States city located in the Fayette County, Alabama, United States. In 2000, the population was 4922. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 4778, It is Alabama's 109th largest by population . According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.64 sq mi (22.38 square kilometre), of which, 8.56 square miles (22.17 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 157th largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4922 people, 2092 households, and 1303 families living in the city. The population density was 575.1 people per square mile (222.05/kmē), it is the 108th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Alabama.
