Farmington City is a city located in St. Francois County, Missouri, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 13924. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 16097, making it Missouri's 49th largest. It has total area of 9 miē (23.31 kmē), of which, 8.95 square miles (23.18 kmē) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 kmē) of it is water, making it Missouri's 61st largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 13924 people, 4647 households, and 2908 families residing in the city. The population density was 1555 people per square mile (600.39/kmē), making its Missouri's 156th most densely populated city. There were 5003 housing units at an average density of 559 per square mile (215.83/kmē). The average household size was 2.28 persons, and the average family size was 2.88 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 18.9% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 33.5% from 25 to 44, 20% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 131.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 137.7 males. The median age of the city's population was 37.4 years, the median age of male residents at 35.4 and the median age of female residents at 41.8. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 89.73% White, 7.36% Black or African American, 0.5% American Indian, 0.73% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, 1.34% from two or more races and 0.32% Other races.
