Fanning Springs City is a United States city located in the Levy and Gilchrist counties, Florida, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 737 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 829, It is the 116th smallest by population in the U.S. state of Florida. It has total area of 3.7 sq mi (9.58 sq km), of which, 3.56 square miles (9.22 sq km) of it is land and 0.14 square miles (0.36 sq km) of it is water, it is the 431st largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 737 residents, 311 households, and 198 families in the city. The population density was 207.2 people per square mile (80/kmē), giving it the 54th least densely populated city among the Florida. There were 397 housing units at an average density of 111.5 per square mile (43.05/kmē). The average household size was 2.37 people, and the average family size was 2.84 people. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 25% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males. The median age is 38.3 years, the median age of male residents at 37.3 and the median age of female residents at 39.5. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 89.01% White, 4.34% Black or African American, 0.68% American Indian, 0.54% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.76% from two or more races and 3.66% Other races.
