Fall River County is a county located in South Dakota, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 7453 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 7145, giving it the 24th largest population among South Dakota's county. It covers total area of 1749.14 sq mi (4530.25 square kilometre), of which, 1739.86 square miles (4506.22 square kilometre) of it is land and 9.28 square miles (24.04 square kilometre) of it is water, making it South Dakota's 12th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 7453 people, 3127 households, and 1976 families residing in the county. The population density was 4.3 people per square mile (1.66/kmē), it is 40th most densely populated county in South Dakota. There were 3812 housing units at an average density of 2.2 per square mile (0.85/kmē). The average household size was 2.23 persons, and the average family size was 2.82 persons. In the county Age distribution was 22.8% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 20.6% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 22.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 91.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 96.4 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 7145, The racial makeup of the county was 6449 White, 23 Black or African American, 465 American Indian, 15 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 189 from two or more races.
