Fairfield County is a county located in South Carolina, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 23454. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 23435, It is South Carolina's tenth least populous county. Its area is just over 709.93 sq mi (1838.71 square kilometre), of which, 686.59 square miles (1778.26 square kilometre) of it is land and 23.34 square miles (60.45 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 19th largest by total area in South Carolina.

For every 100 females there were 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 23435, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 9868 White, 13305 Black or African American, 39 American Indian, 73 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 150 from two or more races.
