Fairfield County, Connecticut is a county located in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 882567 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 895030, It is the largest county by population in the U.S. state of Connecticut. The county comprises an area of 836.96 sq mi (2167.72 kmē), of which, 625.8 square miles (1620.81 kmē) of it is land and 211.15 square miles (546.88 kmē) of it is water, it is the third largest by area in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Connecticut.

As of the census of 2000, there were 882567 people, 324232 households, and 228399 families living in the county. The population density was 1410.3 people per square mile (544.52/kmē), it is Connecticut's most densely populated county. There were 339466 housing units at an average density of 542.4 per square mile (209.42/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.67 persons, and the average family size was 3.18 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.6% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.6 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 895030, The racial makeup of the county was 745226 White, 96119 Black or African American, 2958 American Indian, 38565 Asian, 835 Native Hawaiian, and 11327 from two or more races.
