Fairfield City is a United States city located in the Wayne County, Illinois, United States. It is home to over 5421 people (2000 census). Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 5165, making it the 303rd most populous in Illinois. Its area is just over 3.65 miē (9.45 kmē), of which, 3.62 square miles (9.38 kmē) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 300th largest by total area among Illinois.
