Fairfax County is a county located in Virginia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 969749. Its population was estimated at 1015302 in July 2008, It is the largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 406.61 mi˛ (1053.12 sq km), of which, 395.04 square miles (1023.15 sq km) of it is land and 11.57 square miles (29.97 sq km) of it is water, making it the 48th largest by size in Virginia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 969749 people, 350714 households, and 250281 families living in the county. The population density was 2454.8 people per square mile (947.8/km˛), it is 15th most densely populated county in Virginia. There were 359411 housing units at an average density of 909.8 per square mile (351.28/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.74 persons, and the average family size was 3.2 persons. In the Fairfax County, 25.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.5% were 18 to 24, 33.9% were 25 to 44, 25.3% were 45 to 64, and 7.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1015302, The racial makeup of the county was 71.6% White, 9.63% Black or African American, 0.4% American Indian, 15.91% Asian, 0.14% Native Hawaiian, and 2.32% from two or more races.
