Evangeline Parish is one of the 64 parish of Louisiana, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The population of the parish was 35434 as per the 2000 census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 35624, It is the 31st largest parish by population in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It covers total area of 679.61 mi˛ (1760.18 square kilometre), of which, 664.27 square miles (1720.45 square kilometre) of it is land and 15.34 square miles (39.73 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 32nd largest by total area in Louisiana.

The population density was 53.3 people per square mile (20.58/km˛), it is Louisiana's 31st most densely populated parish. There were 14258 housing units at an average density of 21.5 per square mile (8.3/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.64 persons, and the average family size was 3.19 persons. In the parish Population was distributed with 29.6% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.1 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 35624, The racial makeup of the parish was 69.32% White, 29.47% Black or African American, 0.28% American Indian, 0.29% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.62% from two or more races.
