Escanaba City is one of the city of Delta County, Michigan, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 13140 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 12214, giving it the 89th largest population among Michigan. The city encompasses an area of 16.51 square miles (42.76 sq km ), of which, 12.66 square miles (32.79 sq km) of it is land and 3.85 square miles (9.97 sq km) of it is water, making it Michigan's 48th largest by total area. It is ranks 16 in the size of its inland waterways in Michigan.

The population density was 1038.3 people per square mile (400.89/kmē), it is the 340th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Michigan. There were 6258 housing units at an average density of 494.3 per square mile (190.85/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.19 persons, and the average family size was 2.88 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 22.5% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 87.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.3 males. The median age of the city's population was 40.1 years, the median age of male residents at 36.9 and the median age of female residents at 42.8. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 12570 White, 14 Black or African American, 343 American Indian, 43 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, 143 from two or more races and 24 Ohter races.
