Escambia County is a county located in Florida, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 294410 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 302939, making it the 19th most populous county in Florida. The county extends throughout a territory of 875.57 square miles (2267.72 kmē ), of which, 662.35 square miles (1715.48 kmē) of it is land and 213.21 square miles (552.21 kmē) of it is water, it is the 30th largest by area in the U.S. state of Florida.

As of the census of 2000, there were 294410 people, 111049 households, and 74163 families living in the county. The population density was 444.5 people per square mile (171.62/kmē), it is 13th most densely populated county in Florida. There were 124647 housing units at an average density of 188.2 per square mile (72.66/kmē). The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.98. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 23.5% under the age of 18, 12.2% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 22% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 302939, The racial makeup of the county was 71.39% White, 22.61% Black or African American, 0.98% American Indian, 2.48% Asian, 0.15% Native Hawaiian, and 2.4% from two or more races.
