Emmet County is a county located in Michigan, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 31437. In July 2008, its estimated population was 33535, making it Michigan's 45th largest county. The county extends throughout a territory of 882.26 miē (2285.04 kmē ), of which, 467.82 square miles (1211.65 kmē) of it is land and 414.44 square miles (1073.39 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 34th largest by total area in Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 31437 residents, 12577 households, and 8527 families in the county. The population density was 67.2 people per square mile (25.95/kmē), making it the 39th most densely populated county in Michigan. There were 18554 housing units at an average density of 39.7 per square mile (15.33/kmē). The average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.3% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.7 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 33535, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 94.01% White, 0.56% Black or African American, 3.16% American Indian, 0.63% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.61% from two or more races.
