Elmore County, Alabama is a county located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 65874. Its population was estimated at 78106 in July 2008, It is the 18th most populous county in the U.S. state of Alabama. It has total area of 657.21 square miles (1702.17 sq km), of which, 621.26 square miles (1609.06 sq km) of it is land and 35.96 square miles (93.14 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 38th largest by total area among Alabama's county. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Alabama.
