Elmira City, Chemung County, New York is a city located in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. Elmira City had an official population of 30940 in 2000. Its population was estimated at 29271 in July 2008, It is the 38th largest in terms of population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.58 sq mi (19.63 square kilometre), of which, 7.32 square miles (18.96 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.27 square miles (0.7 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 95th largest by total area in New York.
