Ellwood City Borough is a one of the Beaver and Lawrence counties, Pennsylvania, located in Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, borough's population was 8688 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 7966, It is Pennsylvania's 137th largest by population . The borough comprises an area of 2.39 mi˛ (6.19 square kilometre), of which, 2.34 square miles (6.06 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 292nd largest by size in Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8688 people in the borough, organized into 3716 households, and 2393 families living in the borough. The population density was 3716.6 people per square mile (1434.99/km˛), giving it the 271st most densely populated borough among the Pennsylvania. There were 4006 housing units at an average density of 1712 per square mile (661.01/km˛). The average household size was 2.32 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the borough the population was spread out, with 22.5% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 115 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 120 females. The median age was 40.8 years, The median age of males was 38.6 years, for females the median age was 42.8 years. The racial makeup of the borough was 98.22% White, 0.81% Black or African American, 0.09% American Indian, 0.23% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 0.47% from two or more races and 0.18% Other races.
