Ellis County, Oklahoma


Ellis County is one of the 77 county of Oklahoma, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 4075. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3971, making it Oklahoma's fifth smallest county. The county spans an area of 1231.84 sq mi (3190.45 kmē), of which, 1229.14 square miles (3183.46 kmē) of it is land and 2.7 square miles (6.99 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 12th largest by total area among Oklahoma's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4075 people, 1769 households, and 1219 families residing in the county. The population density was 3.3 people per square mile (1.27/kmē), making it the fourth least densely populated county in Oklahoma. There were 2146 housing units at an average density of 1.7 per square mile (0.66/kmē). The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.79. In the county the population was spread out, with 21.8% under the age of 18, 6% from 18 to 24, 21.6% from 25 to 44, 28.6% from 45 to 64, and 22% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 102.3 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 105.1 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 3971, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.68% White, 0.1% Black or African American, 1.49% American Indian, 0.1% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 1.64% from two or more races.
