The July 2008 population estimate is 27801, It is Kansas's 21st most populous county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 900.47 square miles (2332.21 kmē), of which, 899.97 square miles (2330.91 kmē) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.29 kmē) of it is water, making it the 25th largest by size in Kansas.
