Elliott County, Kentucky is a county located in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 6748. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 7280, giving it the tenth smallest population among Kentucky's county. It is spread over 235.2 square miles (609.17 square kilometre), of which, 233.96 square miles (605.95 square kilometre ) of it is land and 1.24 square miles (3.21 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 29th smallest by total area among Kentucky's county.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 6748 people, 2638 households, and 1926 families living in the county. The population density was 28.8 people per square mile (11.12/kmē), it is eighth least densely populated county in Kentucky. There were 3107 housing units at an average density of 13.3 per square mile (5.14/kmē). The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.02. The population's age distribution was 25.4% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.5 males. Its population was estimated at 7280 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 98.96% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 0.07% American Indian, 0% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.85% from two or more races.
