Elk County is a United States county located in the United States of Pennsylvania. It is home to over 35112 people (2000 census). The July 2008 population estimate is 32268, It is ninth least populous county in Pennsylvania. It is spread over 832.23 miē (2155.47 kmē), of which, 828.65 square miles (2146.19 kmē ) of it is land and 3.58 square miles (9.27 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 23rd largest by total area in Pennsylvania.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 35112 people, 14124 households, and 9748 families living in the county. The population density was 42.4 people per square mile (16.37/kmē), it would be the seventh least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Age range in the county was well distributed with 24% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who were 65 or older. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 32268, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98.77% White, 0.2% Black or African American, 0.13% American Indian, 0.46% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 0.4% from two or more races.
