Elbert County is one of the 159 county of Georgia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 20511 as per the Census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 20494, making it Georgia's 88th largest county. The county encompasses an area of 374.54 mi˛ (970.05 square kilometre ), of which, 368.76 square miles (955.08 square kilometre) of it is land and 5.78 square miles (14.97 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 68th largest in terms of geographical size.

For every 100 males there were 108.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 113 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 20494, The racial makeup of the county was 14251 White, 5996 Black or African American, 46 American Indian, 74 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 122 from two or more races.
