Elbert County is a county located in the United States of Colorado. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 19872 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 22929, It is 23rd most populous county in Colorado. It is spread over 1850.89 sq mi (4793.78 square kilometre), of which, 1850.78 square miles (4793.5 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 22nd largest by total area among Colorado's county.

In the county the population was spread out, with 30.2% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 32.8% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 99.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 100.1 females. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 22929, The racial makeup of the county was 95.91% White, 1.12% Black or African American, 0.64% American Indian, 0.66% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, and 1.59% from two or more races.
