El Monte City is a one of the Los Angeles County, California, located in Western Region (Pacific) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 115965 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 121791, It is the 46th most populous in the U.S. state of California. The city extends throughout a territory of 9.69 sq mi (25.1 sq km ), of which, 9.55 square miles (24.73 sq km) of it is land and 0.14 square miles (0.36 sq km) of it is water, making it California's 339th largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 115965 people, 27034 households, and 22995 families residing in the city. The population density was 12139.5 people per square mile (4687.09/kmē), making it the 28th most densely populated city in California. There were 27758 housing units at an average density of 2906.6 per square mile (1122.24/kmē). It has an average household size was 4.24 persons, and the average family size was 4.43 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 34.1% under the age of 18, 12.1% from 18 to 24, 31.5% from 25 to 44, 15.4% from 45 to 64, and 6.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101 males. The median age of the city's population was 27.1 years, the median age of male residents at 26.5 and the median age of female residents at 27.8. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 41360 White, 889 Black or African American, 1596 American Indian, 21465 Asian, 140 Native Hawaiian, 4971 from two or more races and 45544 Ohter races.
