El Dorado County, California is a county located in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 156299 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 176075, giving it the 30th largest population among California's county. It covers total area of 1788.1 square miles (4631.16 sq km), of which, 1710.85 square miles (4431.08 sq km) of it is land and 77.25 square miles (200.08 sq km) of it is water, it is the 27th largest in terms of geographical size.

The population's age distribution was 26.1% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 176075, The racial makeup of the county was 91.31% White, 1.25% Black or African American, 1.09% American Indian, 3.53% Asian, 0.17% Native Hawaiian, and 2.64% from two or more races.
