Effingham County, Georgia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 37535 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 52060, making it Georgia's 40th largest county. The county comprises an area of 482.82 sq mi (1250.5 square kilometre), of which, 479.41 square miles (1241.67 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.4 square miles (8.81 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 34th largest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 52060, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 43465 White, 7538 Black or African American, 139 American Indian, 387 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, and 523 from two or more races.
