Effingham County, Georgia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 37535 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 52060, making it Georgia's 40th largest county. The county comprises an area of 482.82 sq mi (1250.5 square kilometre), of which, 479.41 square miles (1241.67 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.4 square miles (8.81 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 34th largest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

The population density was 78.3 people per square mile (30.23/kmē), giving it the 60th most densely populated county among the Georgia. There were 14169 housing units at an average density of 29.6 per square mile (11.43/kmē). The average household size was 2.84 persons, and the average family size was 3.18 persons. In the county Age distribution was 29.9% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 101.3 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 104 females. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 52060, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 43465 White, 7538 Black or African American, 139 American Indian, 387 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, and 523 from two or more races.
