Edmunds County is a one of the county from South Dakota's 66 counties, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 4367 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 4034, It is 41st most populous county in South Dakota. It covers total area of 1151.16 miē (2981.49 kmē), of which, 1145.58 square miles (2967.04 kmē) of it is land and 5.58 square miles (14.45 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 25th largest by total area in South Dakota.

The population density was 3.8 people per square mile (1.47/kmē), giving it the 20th least densely populated county among the South Dakota. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 26.7% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 22.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 4034, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 3998 White, 4 Black or African American, 16 American Indian, 4 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 12 from two or more races.
