Edenton Town is a United States town located in the Chowan County, North Carolina, United States. As of 2000 the population was 5394. Its population was estimated at 4966 in July 2008, It is the 115th most populous in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It has total area of 5.19 square miles (13.44 square kilometre), of which, 5.01 square miles (12.98 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.18 square miles (0.47 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 170th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5394 residents, 1983 households, and 1295 families in the town. The population density was 1076.3 people per square mile (415.56/kmē), giving it the 176th most densely populated town among the North Carolina. There were 2204 housing units at an average density of 439.9 per square mile (169.85/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.37 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. In the town the population is diverse age-wise, with 23.7% under the age of 18, 14.3% from 18 to 24, 21.3% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 78.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 71.4 males. The median age is 37 years, The median age of males was 31.7 years, for females the median age was 40.3 years. The racial makeup of the town was 2312 White, 2979 Black or African American, 11 American Indian, 34 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 33 from two or more races and 24 Ohter races.
