Echols County is a county located in the United States of Georgia. The population of the county was 3754 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 4063, It is the seventh least populous county in the U.S. state of Georgia. The county comprises an area of 420.8 square miles (1089.87 kmē), of which, 404.13 square miles (1046.69 kmē) of it is land and 16.67 square miles (43.18 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 55th largest by total area among Georgia's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3754 people in the county, organized into 1264 households, and 937 families living in the county. The population density was 9.3 people per square mile (3.59/kmē), giving it the second least densely populated county among the Georgia. There were 1482 housing units at an average density of 3.7 per square mile (1.43/kmē). The average household size was 2.97 people, and the average family size was 3.26 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 29.3% under the age of 18, 12.5% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 116.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 114.6 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 4063, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 3691 White, 296 Black or African American, 43 American Indian, 5 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 27 from two or more races.
