According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 18186, It is the 126th most populous county in the U.S. state of Texas. It covers total area of 931.9 square miles (2413.61 kmē), of which, 926.01 square miles (2398.35 kmē) of it is land and 5.89 square miles (15.26 kmē) of it is water, making it the 113th largest by size in Texas.
